Gene Ownbey - May 2013 Newsletter

It's hard to believe, but the time has come for the Ownbey Family to celebrate another High School graduation. Kathryn Grace Ownbey – "Katie" to us all – will graduate from Greer Middle College Charter High School (yes, that's a mouthful) this month. We praise the Lord for all her hard work and are proud of the young woman she has become.

Katie was eight years old when we moved to Greenville in 2003, so many of you have watched her grow up here at ERBC. From Upward basketball, AWANA, and children's plays, to Wade Hampton church basketball and Mini-World Changers, Katie has been blessed to be a part of some wonderful ministry opportunities. You can often find her these days working at Chick-fil-A on Haywood Road or running around in her little Honda Civic with the plate on the front that says, KTONB. How many people can do that? Of course it won't work when she gets married, but let's save that for another time. This is tough enough on her Dad!

Lord willing, Katie will be a freshman at North Greenville University in the fall. She plans to major in Accounting and thinks she'd like to work for Chick-fil-A in their corporate office in Atlanta. Wherever she goes, and whatever she does, our prayer is that she grows to love the Lord more and more, and that God would be glorified in her life. We've tried to fire this aggressive little arrow named Katie in that direction. And while we've done so most imperfectly, we believe she's well on her way!

As many of you can attest to, all this is happening way too fast. It seems like yesterday I was carrying her around and the radio was playing…

There's two things I know for sure.
She was sent here from heaven, and she's daddy's little girl.
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night, she talks to Jesus, and I close my eyes.
And I thank God for all the joy in my life,
Oh, but most of all, for...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer.
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair.
"Walk beside the pony, Daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny, Daddy, but I sure tried."
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning, and butterfly kisses at night.

I miss her already. We love you, Katie!
