Gene Ownbey - May 2012 Newsletter

Thursday, May 3 is the National Day of Prayer, and Edwards Road Baptist Church will be open all day for people to come by and cover our nation and its leaders in prayer. We have a nation in great need, a divided people in great moral decline, but, oh, we have a great God! And He invites us to come and ask for what we so desperately need.

A good question might be, "Are we really desperate?" May the Lord help us to see ourselves as we really are and our country as it really is, but may He also help us to see Him as He really is – all powerful, all-wise, and all-good!

Let me share some Scripture to encourage you to come and pray if you are able:

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6)

All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer… (Acts 1:14a)

And they devoted themselves to the apostle's teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. (Acts 2:42)

See you there!
