Interim Pastor of Education and Discipleship Bob Allen
Though I was born in north Georgia (Gainesville/Gillsville), upstate South Carolina has been my US home base since I was 2 years old. I surrendered to Jesus as Lord and Savior when I was 9 and was baptized in First Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, SC. My family moved from Travelers Rest back to Greenville and joined Edwards Road in 1972. I was in college at the time and did not grow up in Edwards Road, but my wife and I have been members of ERBC off and on over the years.
My wife, Linda, and I met at Mars Hill University, started dating after I graduated, and were married in 1978. After finishing seminary, I became Minister of Education/Administration for the First Baptist Church in Thomson, GA. We were appointed by the IMB, SBC as missionaries to Kenya in 1986 and served in East Africa until we took early retirement in December 2015. We moved back to Greenville and joined ERBC in January 2016. I became the Interim Pastor for Adult Education and Assimilation for Edwards Road in September 2018.
Our daughter, Stacey, works for the IMB and lives in Glen Allen, VA. Our son, Stephen, is married to Anna and they have our 3 grandsons. Stephen and Anna work for aid and development organizations and live in Amman, Jordan.
I enjoy running in the early mornings (old and slow), listening to music of many genres, reading (I almost completely converted to digital books in 2009), photography, technology (I’m an Apple fanboy from a long time back), languages, and teaching and training.
